How to apply

Applications
Applications are welcome from German, EU, and non-EU citizens with a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in Biological Sciences or a subject related to Biological Sciences. Applicants holding a Degree in Biotechnology, Biomedical programs, Agricultural Science, other fields of Natural Science, Mathematics, and Informatics will not be considered unless additional qualification in Biology is provided. In general, applicants will not be considered who hold a Master of Science degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Agriculture and other related fields.
The applications will be assessed by a selection committee after the application deadline. Only complete applications submitted in English may be considered. Pre-assessment is not possible.

Teaching language
The teaching language is English. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to certify their proficiency in English. Knowledge of German is not required.

Application deadlines
Applications with a German degree have to be submitted via KLIPS2.0 until 15th of July for the Winter Term (starting October) and 15th of January for the Summer Term (starting April). Applicants with a non-German degree submit their application via "uni-assist" earlier by May 31st (Winter Term) and November 30th (Summer Term), respectively. Please follow the uni-assist guidelines.

Please proceed as follows:


Applicants with a non-German degree

1. Applicants with a non-German degree (Bachelor or equivalent) need legalized hardcopies of the certificates (in English or German) and will need to apply via the online platform “uni-assist”.

2. Prepare a curriculum vitae (CV). The CV should include your address, E-mail, education, (if applicable professional experience, publications, awards, additional qualification, etc.), and the contact details of two academic referees who are able to comment in detail on your capacity to cope with the academic demand of the program.

3. Prepare a Motivation Statement explaining (a) why you would like to join this particular M.Sc. program and (b) what are your specific skills that qualify you for this program (250 - 500 words).

4. Non-native speakers need to provide evidence of proficiency in English, level B2/C1 according to European standard (for example a German Abiturzeugnis, TOEFL, CEFR, IELTS). Alternatively, you may provide evidence of having spent at least 6 months in an English-speaking country or having completed a Bachelor program taught in English.

5. Send your documents and certified copies of your transcripts only to“uni-assist”.

6. Uni-assist will assess all documents and certificates and then forward your application to the KLIPS student registration system of the University of Cologne for being assessed by a selection committee. Only after being notified about acceptance by the MSc Biological Sciences selection committee you will be able to register as a student. The decisions are made in February (summer term applications) and August (winter term applications), respectively.

 

 

Applicants with a degree of a German university

1. Applicants with a degree of a German university (Bachelor or equivalent, graded 2.5 or better) complete the application form for the Master of Science in Biological Sciences.

2. Prepare a curriculum vitae (CV). The CV should include your address, E-mail, education, (if applicable professional experience, publications, awards, additional qualification, etc.), and the contact details of two academic referees who are able to comment in detail on your capacity to cope with the academic demand of the program.

3. Prepare a Motivation Statement explaining (a) why you would like to join this particular M.Sc. program and (b) what are your specific skills that qualify you for this program (250 - 500 words).

4. Prepare copies of certificates and formal transcripts of your academic record, providing full details of the degree, the grades you have obtained, and the courses/modules you have taken.

5. Non-native speakers need to provide evidence of proficiency in English, level B2/C1 according to European standard (for example a German Abiturzeugnis, TOEFL, CEFR, IELTS). Alternatively, you may provide evidence of having spent at least 6 months in an English-speaking country or having completed a Bachelor program taught in English.

6. Applicants with a degree of a German university submit all forms together with copies of the certificates and evidence of English language proficiency via the application portal of the University of Cologne: http://klips2-support.uni-koeln.de/12118.html?&L=1
